We are every woman, from every walk or run of life, gathering together (or virtually) to encourage a healthy lifestyle through moving. On Mother’s Day, we celebrate who we are and what we do. Whether you are a mother or not, we understand the importance of modeling healthy behaviors for our future generations, and the caring of our own bodies and minds that make us stronger every day. Run like a mother- and never stop. The 2026 Run Like a Mother race supports the Ridgefield Library’s Noreen L. Papa “Mothers: Live Your Life” Fund . Contributions to the Fund will support library programs and collections dedicated to women's health and wellness, specifically to educate mothers to take care of themselves so they can take care of others. Beginning a running program can be a daunting and also negative experience if started too fast or furiously. This program uses a safe, slow introduction to running by using a walk/run interval. Run Like a Mother® likes to use time, not distance, because it is important to get your body used to the time at first. Before you know it, you will be covering the distance without even realizing it! The program is gentle. Be patient with your progression; it is easy to get ahead of schedule and do too much. If you feel good, pick up the walk intervals to a faster pace. If the program feels too strenuous, slow down and let your body acclimate to the new exercise. The program is broken down into 3 run training sessions a week. The time covered is about 45 minutes. Download your training guide at the link below. Can my husband run? What about my son? We won’t say no, BUT we will not be giving awards in any male categories, and we only have women's cut shirts. However, In the Kids’ 1 Mile, we have both male and female awards. The Kids' race is for ages 4- 12 years old. Can I run with a stroller? We want you to run for you. It's your day to celebrate. If you want to run with a stroller, please know that this is a two loop course and that you must yield to runners. Please line up in the back of the pack. Can I run with my dog? Dogs are not permitted. If you require a service dog please email EVENTS@ctrunco.com Please note that dogs are also not allowed in Ballard Park per town rules, so spectators should leave dogs at home. Is there water on the course? Yes, there will be one water station that you will pass twice on the looped part of the course. We encourage you to carry your own fluids to save waste. Unless it’s very hot/humid, you likely will not need fluids for a 5k race. MORE FAQ's FAQ

How It All Started The Ridgefield Press, 2019- The idea came to her, as many good ideas do, when she was waking. Megan Searfoss was in the middle of training for the Lake Placid Ironman triathlon, a test of endurance not for the faint of heart. First you swim for 2.4 miles. Then ride your bicycle up and down hills — heck, mountains there — for 112 miles. And then run a full marathon- 26.2 miles. “I woke up with — ‘Run Like A Mother’,” Megan says while reflecting on the start of the 5K race in Ridgefield that now has become a Mother’s Day tradition in Connecticut. When she moved from Illinois to Ridgefield, the focus was on helping her daughters — then in second, fourth and ninth grade — adjust to new schools, make friends, get involved in activities. "I looked around and thought, ‘what about me?’” Seafross recalled. She began running on Sunday mornings with a few other women. In 2007, she invited friends to join on Mother’s Day morning and then get coffee after the run. “What I wanted to do with the race was help women feel as I do when crossing the finish line,” she said of the satisfaction that comes from pushing yourself. “In this era of hyper-parenting, we lose sight of what’s important to us. “Selfish is not always a bad word.” The first Run Like A Mother race in 2008 was spread by word of mouth. She expected about 50 women — within one week 500 had signed up. The following year a kids’ one-mile run was added, along with a training program for those who wanted to learn how to run or improve their time. To read more about Run Like a Mother, click here . Mothers: Live Your Life. Established at the Ridgefield Library in 2014 in partnership with her family and friends, the Mothers: Live Your Life fund honors Noreen L. Papa, a Ridgefield mom, library advocate and early supporter of the Run Like A Mother 5K who died of colon cancer in 2013. Contributions to the Fund support Library programs and collections dedicated to women's health and wellness, specifically to educating mothers to take care of themselves so they can take care of others. Donations to the Fund may be dedicated to Noreen or made in honor or memory of another important woman in your life. Through the Ridgefield library, her family and friends hope to keep the memory of Noreen and her mission to live a healthy life in front of all the mothers that walk through the library doors. Our goal for the mothers: live your life programs is to carry on the memory of Noreen by providing books and lectures that educate mothers to take care of themselves, live a little, test their bodies through running and fitness and to continue to grow into individuals.
